Christmas Breads & Muffins
Christmas Breads – Join us for a bake-a-thon!
While quick breads are for all occasions, there are quite a few recipes that we would think of as ‘Christmas-y breads’: cranberry loaf, fruit and nut bars, and pound cake, just to name a few.
During class, we’ll make three quick breads, and as they bake, we’ll learn kitchen chemistry: the difference between baking soda and baking powder and how both are activated; how cake flour and regular flour differ and when to use each; and how special ingredients such as buttermilk, sour cream, and orange juice can jazz up your breads.
As well, you’ll learn important baking tips: what types of pans work best for breads and cakes; how to vary your baking times when you use glass, metal, or silicone pans; and when to grease – or not grease – your pans. You’ll learn to alter a recipe, how to time a quick bread so it bakes perfectly, and some recipes for herb butters to spread on your treats.
In addition to your three luscious loaves, you’ll also take home a handout on baking perfect treats, as well as an extensive trove of quick bread recipes.
Bring an apron and come hungry; I’ll have loads of loaves for you to munch on!
